Smallpox Vaccination Requirement

CHANCELLORS:

You will recall that, in connection with the recommendation made

to The Regents that the smallpox vaccination requirement be

deleted from the Standing Orders, the statement was made that if

the recommendation were accepted, "the President intends to

authorize the Chancellors to require vaccination at their

discretion for students at higher-than-average risk or when

special circumstances demand, such as the threat of an epidemic".

As you know, The Regents accepted the recommendation at their May

meeting. Therefore, in keeping with the above, you are hereby

authorized to require vaccination at your discretion under the

above-stated circumstances.
